Congratulations to Professor Gary Beauchamp on receiving the Hugh Owen Medal from the Learned Society of Wales. All three editors of the Wales Journal of Education have now received the prestigious award, following Professor Enlli Thomas in 2019 and Professor Tom Crick in 2023, recognising their significant contributions to educational research.

The Hugh Owen Medal is named in honour of Sir Hugh Owen (1804-1881), a Welsh educator, philanthropist, and pioneer of higher education in Wales. It is awarded in recognition of significant contributions to educational research, or the application of research to produce significant innovations in education policy and/or professional educational practice in Wales.

The Wales Journal of Education is a platinum Open Access journal publishing national and international research on education policy and practice. In bi-annual issues, the journal plays a key role in further supporting and developing the educational research base in Wales and beyond, ensuring that the latest research is accessible to everyone. A special issue has recently been published with invited authors from around the UK critiquing a quarter of a century of post-devolution education in Wales.

In addition, the Focus on Practice collection encourages contributions from practitioners and researchers at all stages of their career, offering a platform for practitioners to publish their own research. The Editors also feature on the Wales Journal of Education Podcast, discussing the latest papers with authors, who share the most important findings and implications of their work.
