About The Book

This delightful collection of essays and poems in the area of Welsh music studies is an affectionate tribute to two great 'Bearers of Song', Meredydd Evans and Phyllis Kinney. The volume has been assembled by their friends and colleagues as a celebration of their immeasurable contribution to the culture, music and language of Wales over the last fifty years. All of the material is presented fully bilingually in both English and Welsh, and there are numerous musical examples and illustrations. Two of Wales' leading poets, Tony Conran and Gwyn Thomas, offer specially-commissioned works for Mered and Phyllis, while Robin Gwyndaf contributes the poem that gives the volume its title. There is also a warm appreciation of the couple's joint achievement by R.Geraint Gruffydd and an extensive bibliography of their complete writings by Huw Walters.

Endorsements

"A collection of essays presented as a scholarly bouquet to Meredydd Evans and Phyllis Kinney is warmly to be welcomed. The contribution of these two scholars to Welsh studies over the last fifty years or so has been immeasurable, and the affection which the two invariably elicit is matched only by the scholarly regard in which they are held." Dr David Wyn Jones, Reader in Music, Cardiff University "This most attractive, indeed handsome tome, exquisitely produced by the University of Wales Press and a real credit to its editors, is a most worthy tribute volume to Dr. Meredydd Evans and Phyllis Kinney. The volume also contains a number of attractive illustrations which add substantially to the appeal of a notable book - to be read, cherished and preserved on the bookshelf." J. Graham Jones, Planet, May 07
