The University of Wales Press wishes to send its deepest condolences to the family of Dr Lucia Villares, who sadly passed away this week. Dr Villares co-edited Graciliano Ramos and the Making of Modern Brazil: Memory, Politics and Identities, a significant collection of essays in our Iberian and Latin American Studies series, which examines the work of prominent Brazilian writer Graciliano Ramos.
From 2009 to 2014, Dr Villares was an Affiliated Lecturer in the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the University of Cambridge, where before which she held the Clare College Santander Post-doctoral Studentship in Portuguese and Literary Studies. She also taught literature in Portuguese at the University of Oxford and University of Bristol. Her body of work also includes Examining Whiteness: Reading Clarice Lispector through Bessie Head and Toni Morrison (Routledge, 2010).
